Creating a rural oasis, right outside the back door was the goal for this property. The farmhouses architecture was complemented by the clean lines and textured stone selections for the patio and walls within the design. Working at an older rural residence has its challenges, In order to achieve their dream backyard we were forced to relocate septic systems, reworking swales and provide additional shelter the strong NW winds that swoop in off the farmlands. When forced to create a buffer for strong winds we opted to lower the grade for the pool on a lower point on the site as well as install mass plantings shrubs and grasses.

The space is designed to entertain large family gatherings, yet not feeling overbearing when it’s only the immediate family. Large armor stone was used to retain the grade while offering overflow seating for those larger gettogethers. Custom 18’ Vinyl over Steel steps in the swimming pool with the gas firepit on center, creates the perfect congregating spot to enjoy summer days into the evening by the pool. This central congregating spot connects the dining and lounging areas, which are on adjacent sides of the pool. While still maintaining definition between all the spaces, having them all at the same end of the pool creates an intimate feeling within the large landscape. The design of the pool allowed for an Autocover to reduce the debris from surrounding farms being blown into the pool, while also providing peace of mind with many small children using the space regularly.
